Carbon Dioxide Filtration for Soft Drinks Production
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is used in the soft drinks’ bottling process to maintain carbonation while filling the bottles and blanket the pre-mix tank before the actual filling process. Microorganisms that may be present in the CO2 piping may contaminate the product. Sterile soft drink filtration prevents the introduction of microbial contaminants, such as mold and bacteria, via CO2.
Emflon® PFRW filters feature a double layer of the Pall 0.2-micron polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane. The design of these components helps in keeping gas (CO2) streams free from microbial contaminants such as bacteria, yeasts, molds and particles, even in humid and moist environments during soft drink carbon dioxide filtration. All other filter components are made of oxidation-resistant polypropylene. Fully manufactured assemblies are validated by stringent liquid challenge with Brevundimonas diminuta at 107/cm2 filter area and are 100% integrity tested. Emflon PFRW filters are integrity testable by Water Intrusion and Forward Flow tests.
If required, the Emflon PFRW filter can be protected by a Pall prefilter to ensure the long life of the final filter.
